Your party will first meet Vix in his cabin in the Eastern Greilyn Jungle, where he asks to join your party. If you accept prior to the 2.2 patch, the cabin door will not open. If you reject his offer, he leaves the area for the Eirulan Inn, where he can be found standing near the rear of the bar. If you need to recruit him, teleport to the Town of Eirulan, then proceed north to the Inn tramway and ride it across to the Inn. Enter and speak to him and ask him to join your party.

Once he's in your party and you have initiated Act III, Chapter 5 (The Mines of Kaderak, Part II) teleport to the Town of Kalrathia, and from there to the Lower Mines of Kaderak.Once there, take the westernmost of the two paths heading south. Continue along that path, which first turns to the east, destroying the Plagued Impuses, Uhn Miners and Scorchers, plus all of the Grim Shard Souls they meet. The path soon turns back to the south. Continue along it until they approach some low stairs and the path branches to the east and west thereafter. Take the eastern path until they come in contact with a large locked door. Vix will first say "What are we doing here? My friends are dead. The Shard Souls are everywhere. The Dark Wizards are winning. We destroy one Shard Soul, they just make more. What's the point?". Then exclaim that there's more to the mines than they've currently explored and that he can break down the door, which he does. A few enemies are likely to attack as soon as the door goes down, which initiates the quest.

Head through the door and continue east and you'll see the first slowly pulsing white star on your small compass map, representing a Shard Cluster just ahead as the path turns to the south. Move toward it to find some enemies to be destroyed.

Pull the lever in front of the nearby mine cart to orient the tracks toward the Shard Cluster. Then move around to the rear of the cart and pull the lever to release the explosive laden cart and send it into the Shard Cluster, destroying it.

Follow the passageway until it again turns to the south and they pass a curving stairway to the east. The second explosive laden cart is just beyond. Pull the lever in front of the nearby mine cart to orient the tracks toward the Shard Cluster. Then move around to the rear of the cart and pull the lever to release the cart and send it into the second Shard Cluster.

Continue along the path to the east and keep an eye out for the white slowly pulsing star on the small compass map. Once the Shard Cluster's been located, approach the third explosive laden cart and pull the lever in front of the nearby mine cart to orient the tracks toward the Shard Cluster. Then move around to the rear of the cart and pull the lever to release the cart and send it into the third Shard Cluster, thus completing this quest.
